ARENA™ Threat Environment - Air
Threats
Summary
The ARENA Threat Environment provides a library of
twenty different air threats. These threats model the performance of typical
fighter aircraft, such as the F-16 or the MiG-29. Each digital air threat uses a
first order six degree of freedom aerodynamic model with linearized control rate
inputs, aerodynamic data tables, quaternion computations, direction cosines, and
wind effects. The software modules are optimized for computational performance,
while still providing tactical fidelity for pilot training. The instructor or
operator can fly the air threats using a hands on stick and throttle set
provided at the instructor operator station, performing takeoffs and landings,
flying as a hostile threat or as a friendly wingman, and employing weapons and
electronic countermeasures.
Tactical Programmed Maneuvers
The ARENA Threat Environment provides the following
one, two, three, and four aircraft, computer controlled, air threat tactics that
are selectable by the user. These pre-planned, programmed maneuvers provide the
tactical environment necessary for effective fighter pilot training. Each tactic
may be selected for any air target.
